For the Luck of a Bride: “Something Blue”

“Something Old, Something New,
Something Borrowed, Something Blue,
And A Silver Sixpence In Her Shoe.”

Based on an old English poem, the legend refers to five essential tokens of luck a bride must carry on her wedding day in order to be blessed with a long and happy marriage. And we’re here to provide all the inspiration needed to find the perfect pieces for the luck of the bride.

Early before the 19th century, blue was not only a popular colour for women to get married in, but was known as a symbol of love, fidelity and purity. It has even been said that couples used to wear blue bands on the edges of their wedding day clothes to represent their love and loyalty to one another. There are so many different options to choose from for your “something blue.” It may even be the piece of luck that is most fun to find and decide on. And if you want to get really creative, try using blue nail polish, a small blue flower hidden in your veil, a headpiece or maybe even a temporary blue tattoo. Our suggestion, to truly honour the bridal luck tradition, is to hide a piece of something blue in your groom’s ensemble as well!

Now for some “something blue” inspiration…

#1. Blue Embroidery

Having your wedding date, names, song lyrics or some other phrase that’s close to your heart sewn into something you’re wearing on your wedding day is a great idea. You can use it on your hankie, under the skirt of your dress or even on the wrist of you little white gloves.
